Riceviamo e pubblichiamo la testimonianza di "quel soleggiato giorno qualunque"<\/span><\/font> che Bernadette Kilgen, parente newyorkese della collaboratrice Marta Flaccadori, ha deciso di raccontare a Varesenews. La traduzione \u00e8 a cura di Marta Flaccadori.<\/span><\/font>

Quel giorno, era un bellissimo e soleggiato giorno qualunque\u2026 i bambini della scuola dove io insegno erano appena rientrati dopo le vacanze e tutte le maestre erano impegnate a cercare di fare rientrare i piccoli nella solita routine che, dopo un\u2019estate divertente, non era tra i loro principali intenti. La preside entr\u00f2 \u00a0<\/span>in ogni classe, chiedendo se qualcuno avesse un parente che lavorasse nel Word Trade Center. Ci venne comunicato che c\u2019era stato un terribile incidente aereo e che noi tutte dovevamo tenere i bambini in classe e continuare con il lavoro iniziato. Immediatamente cominciammo a chiederci per quale motivo dovessimo tenere gli alunni in aula e che cosa, questo, avesse a che fare con un incidente aereo. Nei successivi 20 minuti la scuola divent\u00f2 sempre pi\u00f9 caotica. Vedemmo auto della polizia posizionarsi tutto intorno alla scuola e capimmo subito che qualcosa di terribile era successo\u2026qualcosa di molto terribile, ma non immaginavamo nemmeno, quanto realmente lo fosse\u2026Le altre colleghe sentirono parlare di Pentagono e del fatto che fossimo sotto attacco\u2026e cos\u00ec, con questo stato d\u2019animo, dovemmo continuare il lavoro con i bambini, senza permettere che si agitassero. <\/span><\/p>\n

I genitori cominciarono a venire a scuola, per \u00a0<\/span>prendere i loro piccoli\u2026
<\/span>Nessuno sapeva realmente cosa fosse accaduto e, per questo, preferiva avere i figli a casa, \u201cal sicuro\u201d\u2026
<\/span>Gli alunni rimasti in classe capirono, immediatamente, che qualcosa non andava e cominciarono a diventare irrequieti\u2026
<\/span>Solamente con il passare del giorno, dal momento che potemmo accendere televisione e radio, ecco, solo allora, la gravit\u00e0 dell\u2019accaduto ci colp\u00ec, come una tonnellata di mattoni che ti cade addosso. Tutti erano spaventati, increduli, stupiti\u2026<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Per mesi, prima dell\u2019arrivo dell\u2019anno nuovo (1999\/2000), tutti si erano preparati ad un blocco totale, di computer, macchine\u2026tutti parlavano di terrorismo, ma poi, con il passare del tempo, e realizzando che le cose andavano bene, ci dimenticammo di parlarne.
<\/span>Adesso, invece, una paura, ancora pi\u00f9 grande, \u00e8 ritornata, \u00e8 riapparsa di fronte a noi.
<\/span>Mio marito Richie, quel giorno, lavorava in Long Island. Era da poco andato in pensione dal NYPD ( New York\u00a0<\/span>Police Department) ed io ringraziavo il cielo per questo. In ogni caso, \u00a0<\/span>lui non tornava . Era, infatti, bloccato sul ponte, a causa del blocco totale del traffico e della chiusura dello stesso, a seguito del terribile attacco. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Egli, percorse, poi, la strada verso la sua famiglia e rimase con essa\u2026La donna che gli sedeva a fianco, durante il meeting di lavoro, perse il figlio quel giorno\u2026un vigile del fuoco che entr\u00f2, come soccorritore, nelle torri\u2026lasci\u00f2 la moglie in cinta di tre mesi.
<\/span>Lo shock che ha colpito tutti, \u00e8 continuato per mesi e mesi insieme con un sentimento di rassegnazione. Continuavamo ad avere notizia di amici e famiglie di amici che, in quella giornata, persero la vita. Civili e vigili del fuoco allo stesso modo.
<\/span>Una mia compagna di universit\u00e0, era all\u2019interno delle torri. Lei lavorava, mentre il marito si prendeva cura della loro figlia.\u00a0<\/span>Subito dopo l\u2019attacco chiam\u00f2 il marito, rimasero al telefono sino a quando cadde la linea\u2026il suo corpo non fu mai<\/b> ritrovato<\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Posso dire che lo shock non se ne \u00e8 mai andato via. Sono passati cinque anni ed \u00e8 come fosse successo ieri. Le nostre vite e i nostri cuori non saranno mai pi\u00f9 quelli di prima.
Noi, ora, siamo adulti, ma cosa ne sar\u00e0 dei nostri figli? Come saranno le loro vite? Quale futuro li sta aspettando?Avranno una vita da vivere?

That day was a beautiful, sunny day….the children were just back to school and the teachers were trying to get the children back into a routine after summer fun. The principal went to each classroom to ask us if we had any family members that work in the towers. She told us there was a terrible plane accident and that weshould keep the children in the classrooms and go about our work. We all wondered why a child could not leave our rooms and what that had to do with a plane accident. With in 20 minutes, the school became very busy. We saw police cars stationed outside the school and then knew something bad was going on…. Teachers heard about the Pentagon and that we were under attack…..with our anxiety, we had to gracefully keep the children unaware. Parents started coming to school to take their children home. No one was sure iwhat was happening and the parents wanted their cdhildren home with them. The children started realizing that children were leaving the class and they became anxious and upset……<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

As the day went on and were had access to the television and radio, the severity of the day hit us like a ton of bricks. Everyone was numb, scared and frightened. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

For months before the turn of the century, [1999\/2000] everyone prepared for machines and computers not to work….people talked about terrorism happening…..but as that time past, and things were good, we forgot about that talk. Now fears were happening right in front of us.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Richie was in Long Island working that day. He had just retired from the NYPD and we were grateful for that. However, he could not make it home because of bridges being closed in fear of terror happening. He made his way to Family and stayed with them. The woman he sat next to at this business meeting lost her son that day…..a fireman who went into the towers….he left his wife 3 months pregnant.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The aftershock went on for months and months with a true feeling of hopelessness. We heard about friends and friends’ families that had perished that day….Civilians and Fire fighters alike. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

A girl I went to the University with, was in the towers that day. She was the worker and her husband was the caregiver for their daughter. She called him as it happend and stayed on the telephone with him until the connection was lost. They never recovered her body.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

I guess you can say the aftershock will never go away. 5 years later and it seems like it was yesterday. Our life and our world will never be the same. The way we live will never be the same. We are adults now, but how will our children live? What will their lilves be like???? Will they have a life to live?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
