{"id":512731,"date":"2016-04-29T18:07:02","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T16:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.varesenews.it\/?p=512731"},"modified":"2016-04-29T18:07:02","modified_gmt":"2016-04-29T16:07:02","slug":"vellone-river-cleaned-up-for-e200000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.varesenews.it\/2016\/04\/vellone-river-cleaned-up-for-e200000\/512731\/","title":{"rendered":"Vellone River cleaned up for \u20ac200,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning, 26 April, Mayor <strong>Attilio Fontana<\/strong> and the Councillor responsible for Environmental Protection, <strong>Riccardo Santinon<\/strong>, together with the director, <strong>Giuseppe Longhi<\/strong>, the Specialised Soil Defence Unit and Water Police, and <strong>students from \u201cCairoli\u201d High School<\/strong> involved in a project called \u201cCivic Monitoring\u201d, organised by their teacher, Ms Guerraggio, carried out an inspection of the woods around the Vellone basin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The work is part of the \u201cpackage\u201d of the <strong>Olona, Bozzente-Luna River Contract<\/strong> between <strong>Lombardy Region and Campo dei Fiori<\/strong>. The package entails <strong>total investments of \u20ac2 million<\/strong>, <strong>\u20ac280,000 for the Vellone<\/strong>, for which \u20ac200,000 has been spent on the final project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDifferent types of work have been carried out on the Vellone, at its source and further downstream: downstream, the bed of the river has been made safe, with reinforcement of the banks and an extraordinary redefinition of the banks; at source, the bed has simply been cleaned, but most work was done on the paths, with the creation of a small wooden bridge, where there had been a landslide, the addition of wooden balustrades in dangerous spots, reorganisation of the paths and the creation of two artificial wading points, one at the furnace and one near the valley station. The work was carried out with great attention to hydrogeological safety, but also to the usability of the paths, which are very beautiful for the people of Varese and tourists,\u201d Councillor Santinon explained.<\/p>\n<p>The path most involved is the \u201c<strong>Marmitte dei Giganti<\/strong>\u201d (Potholes), which from the residential area of Velate goes towards the valley station of the Sacro Monte cable railway;
