What has made the severity of the situation even worse is that, should something stop the construction for good, employment, albeit extremely serious, would be only one of the huge problems to deal with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family:Arial\">The latest news concerning the situation was from <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">a meeting<\/b>, on the afternoon of Friday 10 May, <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:\nnormal\">between the trade unions and ICS<\/b>, the firm that has a decisive share of the contract. The meeting apparently confirmed the worst forecasts of the trade unions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family:\nArial\">According to what they were told, the firm has petitioned <b>the Court of Rome<\/b><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:bold\">, <\/span>exploiting the problem of storing the earth, which has paralysed the construction site for months, which may lead to withdrawal from the contract with RFI and Italfer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family:\nArial\">This communication alerted the trade unions, who immediately asked for a meeting with the Prefect to discuss the matter, also because of the deadline of the June redundancy payments, which, at this point, would stop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family:\nArial\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family:\nArial\">The next action jointly scheduled by the trade unions is <b>a general assembly of the employees<\/b><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:bold\">,<\/span> next Thursday, 16 May.
