The redundancy figures in Varese Province in the first quarter of 2013<\/b> are worrying.<\/span><\/p>\nIt is true that there was a 12% fall<\/b> compared to the last quarter of 2012, but what was responsible for more than half of that was the reduction in CIG redundancy payments for small enterprises<\/b>, which was basically due to the partial accounting of the new applications submitted since January 2013. The situation in the province seems to be better than the overall situation in Lombardy, where the drop in CIG payments<\/b>, compared to the previous quarter, was only 0.7%.<\/span><\/p>\n If we compare the first quarter of 2013 with the corresponding quarter in 2012, the increase was 59.5%<\/b>, which was made up of ordinary redundancy payments, “CIGO” (+20.5%), and extraordinary redundancy payments, “CIGS” (+95.9%)<\/b>, whereas the redundancy payments for small enterprises “CIGD”<\/b> fell (-52.4%)<\/b>, for the reasons mentioned above.<\/span><\/p>\n Essentially, since the beginning of 2010, the first quarter of 2013, with its <\/span>10,904,276<\/span> hours requested, has been the fourth largest in terms of CIG applications, after the first two quarters of 2010 and the last quarter of 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n CIGO payments decreased by 22.8%<\/span><\/b>, compared to the previous quarter, while, across the region, it rose by 6%. The fall occurred throughout industry, except for the steel industry and the non-metallic mineral sector. In contrast with industry, the building sector<\/b> saw an increase in CIGO payments of 51.7%<\/b> (+25.2% across the region).<\/span><\/p>\n CIGS payments increased by 28.9%<\/span><\/b>, compared to the previous quarter, and by 8% across the region<\/b>. In industry, the increase was particularly high in the mechanical (+54%) and chemical (517.4%) sectors. Away from industry, the commercial sector was affected (+107.6%). The trend was similar to the regional trend, except for the chemical <\/span>(-35.5%) and building sectors (+28%). CIGD payments<\/b> fell by 59.6%<\/b> for the reasons mentioned above. Across the region, as well, it fell by 39.7%.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n “It is no longer possible to compare the number of employees receiving redundancy payments that quarter with the number in last year’s quarter,” explains Sergio Moia (see photo)<\/b> of the “CISL dei Laghi<\/b>”, the branch of the trade union that covers Como and Varese Provinces. <\/span>“Since 1 January, not all applications for redundancy payments have been registered. Comparison with those that have been registered has shown an increase of 56%, from 403 to 720 employees made redundant<\/b>.
