{"id":693377,"date":"2018-02-23T11:15:20","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T10:15:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.varesenews.it\/?p=693377"},"modified":"2018-02-23T11:15:20","modified_gmt":"2018-02-23T10:15:20","slug":"meridiana-becomes-air-italy-strategy-flight-lists-and-figures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.varesenews.it\/2018\/02\/meridiana-becomes-air-italy-strategy-flight-lists-and-figures\/693377\/","title":{"rendered":"Meridiana becomes Air Italy: strategy, flight lists and figures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Meridiana is starting again in Malpensa<\/strong>, confirming the leading role of the airport in Milan, and is now <strong>aiming to Air Italy<\/strong>, the group&#8217;s company that had been in the shadows for the last years and that will de facto \u201creplace\u201d Meridiana with its brand name.<\/p>\n<p>In the presentation during a press conference (with Marco Rigotti, the chairman of Meridiana Francesco Violante and Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways and new majority shareholder), <strong>the new course of action of the company<\/strong> was presented, including the unveiling of the Air Italy livery (with a photo from <strong>Aeroporti Lombardi<\/strong>). According to the project, <strong>fifty new planes will be available by 2020<\/strong>, with a prospect of <strong>10 millions of passengers, 8 of which starting their flight from Malpensa<\/strong>. The company is aiming to \u201chire 1500 people\u201d, explained Akbar Al Baker.<\/p>\n<p>The fleet will consist of, among the others, <strong>twenty Boeing 737 Max 8<\/strong> (with the new livery) and five <strong>Airbus 330-220<\/strong> for long-range destinations, <strong>from Milan to New York and Miami<\/strong>. Starting from September, a four-times-per-week flight to Bangkok will be available as well.<\/p>\n<p>In May, on the <strong>internal market<\/strong> the flight to Rome will be available; other than this, there will be also <strong>connections to Catania, Palermo, Naples and Lamezia Terme<\/strong>, that will act as feeders for international flights.<\/p>\n<p>A company \u201cthat provides high quality services, and that is an alternative for Italians and for all the international tourists that wish to visit Italy\u201d, summed up the CEO of Qatar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The plan focusing on Malpensa was presented in the presence of the CEO of Qatar Airways.
