This is the proposal of the <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">Council for Local Autonomies (CLA)<\/b>, which is chaired by the President of Milan Province, <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:\nnormal\">Guido Podest&agrave;<\/b>, and which is made up of all of the presidents of the other provinces in Lombardy. As Podest&agrave; stated in an article published today, Wednesday 26 September, in the newspaper <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">Corriere della Sera<\/b>, the proposal has been drawn up by the council, and is a suggestion of how Lombardy might be divided up, following the parameters based on a government law: at least 350,000 inhabitants and an area of 2500 km<sup>2<\/sup>. <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style:\nnormal\">(see photo: the new map, drawn by Corriere della Sera)<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family:Arial\">And according to the CLA map, this is how the subdivision will be done. <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">Milan<\/b> will become a metropolitan area; <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">Pavia<\/b><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">, Bergamo and Brescia<\/b> will remain unchanged. Despite not respecting legal parameters, an exclusion from the law will be requested for <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">Mantova and Sondrio<\/b>, because of the structures of their provinces; <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">Lodi and Cremona<\/b> will be united; and a super-province will be created in the north west of Lombardy, consisting, namely, of <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:\nnormal\">Varese<\/b><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">, Como, Lecco and Monza<\/b>. This will become a sort of very large, Pedemontana area, with a very irregular structure, the unification of which <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">will satisfy the legal parameters<\/b>. According to Podest&agrave;, it was not possible to request other exclusions for Varese, <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">there were not sufficient grounds<\/b> for the independence of a province that, according to the conditions established, is too small.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family:Arial\">Now, the next stage <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\">will be on 2 October<\/b>, when the Council for Local Autonomies is meeting. On that day, <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:\nnormal\">the final proposal should be produced, which the Region will then present to Rome<\/b>.
