Australian Rugby Team in Varese

In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Rugby Sevens is going to be introduced into the Games program, and the Australian team, who are among the best rugby players in the world, will certainly be the protagonists in the tournament that will be held in London. And it is extremely likely that the Aussies will start their preparation for the Olympic competition right here in Varese, or nearby, early next year.
This news was revealed this morning, Thursday 3 December, during the presentation of “Pedala con i campioni” (Pedalling with the champions), in Villa Recalcati. Among those present, there was also Warwick Forbes, the General Manager of the Australian Sports Commission in Varese, the man that inherited, from Shane Bannan, coordination of the work on the technical and scientific centre being built on the lakeside in Gavirate.
“Sponsorship for the “expedition” of the Australian Rugby Sevens team is being discussed in these very days, but I don’t think there will be any problems,” Forbes explains. At the beginning of 2010, we will find out when the team is arriving; yet another Australian team is coming to train in the sport centres of Varese.
