Binda trophy, also the Italian women athletes will be present at the start in Cittiglio

The weekend, that our province will dedicate to female cycling at an international level, is getting really close. Indeed, in a dozen days time, the area of Varese will become the world capital of this discipline, with the congress scheduled in Ville Ponti , on Friday the 26^th, and above all the starting stage of the Cycling World Cup 2010, the “Binda Trophy”  with the start and finish in Cittiglio, Sunday the 28^th.                                              The race, organised by the Cycling Sport Promotion of Mario Minervino, continues with presentation dates: today, Tuesday the 16^th, was the turn of Villa Recalcati where Giuseppe De Bernardi Martignoni, Councillor of Sports, hosted.

The occasion was used by Minervino to reveal some news on “Binda” and on the initiatives that join the awaited race in Cittiglio. The more unexpected and delightful participation in the race will be that of the Italian team led by Dino Salvoldi at the 28^th of March; the Italian coach won’t call, obviously, the big athletes as Cantele, Guderzo or Bronzini, who will be in their own teams, but he will offer an important opportunity to some very promising young athletes, who will be announced in the few next days. Italy won’t be the only nation at the start and putting together  the selections and the sports groups is a habit for the female cycling, unlike the male one; for example last year the “Binda” went to the champion Marianne Vos , who competed with the Dutch jersey. This year Vos remains one of the front runners, together with Johansson and, why not, with the national Noemi Cantele. The Arcisate team peeped out in Villa Recalcati wearing the new Htc-Columbia jersey and made the point about their situation. “I’m fine, the practices are going as planned. Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow I am going to test myself on the Ardena climb, where I have to go very fast: it is a stretch that I very often use in order to understand how trained I am and my record there is slightly higher than 8’ before the Mendrisio world championship”.

Htc-Columbia, together with Cervelo (two teams), a professional Swiss cycling team, is going to be the first team to hold a training  session on our streets starting from Monday. It is an occasion for our athletes to train themselves on the race track but also for Varese to promote its territory. No wonder at the presentation there was also Paola Della Chiesa, the neo-president of Tourism Agency: “ Our collaboration with the race recently has had an important moment, for the Milano Bit (an Italian tourism organisation). We really like the international qualification of “Binda” because we believe in the connection between sport and tourism: now we hope there will be good weather in order to have a weekend that can be remembered”. As a matter of fact, in addition to the race the program will involve a series of initiatives: the organisers are going to set up a covered structure where one can follow, one after the other, team presentations, aperitifs, the pasta party and show and entertaining moments, also promoted today by the mayor of Cittiglio, Giuseppe Galliani. While the event is ending, in Varese and in Gazzada there will be the congressional appointments. On Friday, 26^th, as already said, Varese is going to offer hospitality to the International conference of Women Cycling in Ville Ponti, organised by Unione Cilcistica Internazionale (international cycling union) and Federciclismo (Italian cycling federation) and realised in collaboration with Insubria University. Among the audience there are going to be executives, technicians, doctors, journalists and athletes who were part of a women cycling team. On Saturday, instead, and this is something new, Villa Cagnola, in Gazzada, will host the delegates who are going to participate in the Fci federal Council and presidency council with all the managers of the related regions.
