Five thousand solar panels to provide Luino with energy

The town of Luino is backing solar energy, with a photovoltaic power plant that, when operating, will be the second largest in Varese Province.

GE Energia, an entirely Luino-based company that has been operating in the renewable energy sector since 2001, is setting up a 1 Megawatt photovoltaic power plant, right next to its head office, in the Luino industrial area of Cucco. With the conclusion of the necessary authoritative procedures, construction of the 996,3 kWp plant is now underway.

 

When built, the plant will have 4860 polycrystalline silicon panels, in groups of 243, each with a nominal power of 205 Wp, placed on fixed metal structures anchored to the ground.

The area involved is 23,000 m²; it will be surrounded on all sides by a fence, with a perimeter detection and localization system, an anti-intrusion system and CCTV. The plant will be made entirely by GE Energia. Work is expected to last 6 months.

 

Once operating, the plant will reduce CO₂ emissions by 552,486 kg/year. The estimated production per year will be about 1,040,465 kWh, equal to the annual electricity requirement of 400 households. The plant is sufficiently large to transfer electricity to the grid. GE Energia has already built similar plants in other areas in Italy, which produce 5 MW, and is currently building plants for an additional 5 MW. To these, we can add the plant that has just been authorised.
