“Fighting the Mafia also through federalism”

"The Mafia have to be fought." This was the title of the list read by Roberto Maroni during the TV show “Vieni via con me”. The Minister took the floor at 10 pm and praised the State departments "the police and the magistracy as well as a little bit of his own Ministry” for its firm battle against organised crime. He praised the outstanding results of having put under arrest 28 important fugitives, and for the seizure and the confiscation of goods amounting to 18 billion Euros. "The last criminal we caught was Iovine. Michele Zagaria and Matteo Messina Denaro haven’t been found yet, but the police are tightening the net around them. We’ve hit organised crime at the heart of its economic assets for over two years. The Mafia have to be fought by contrasting their territorial settlement, by eliminating the historical territorial imbalance". After reading the list of the last operations done in Lombardy where some politicians were put under arrest, none from the “Lega” party, Maroni quoted Gaetano Salvemini and his wish to have a federal constitution for the South. " Fighting the Mafia also means to go through this".

The Minister concluded his speech by chatting with Fabio Fazio. "I’m very glad you came, but since the ‘Lega’ (Northern League) in the north are the strongest party, wouldn’t it be possible  that the N’drangheta try to establish a relationship whatsoever with some people from that party". This was an attempt by the TV host to motivate Maroni’s objection to the stand adopted by Saviano in the previous show.

"The speech was unfair and offensive to the ‘Lega’, taking a look at what happened in Lombardy is enough to understand. The audience’s perception of what has been said in the previous show was different,” replied the “Lega” spokesman. "We are fighting against the Mafia". Fazio and Maroni also made a joke about the possibility of involving the citizens in the activities of the Interior Ministry. "Should you become the Interior Minister for a week, you’d make me the happiest man in the world as I’d be able to go on holiday for a week as well". Previously, Luca Zingaretti had already read a list of original things written by Andrea Camilleri saying that you can eat thanks to the culture.

Ilaria Cucchi, Ivano Fossati, an immigrant who was on the crane in Brescia, Renzo Piano and Corrado Guzzanti followed Maroni’s speech.

Near the conclusion of the show, the floor was taken by women with lists read by Emma Bonino, Susanna Camusso, Laura Morante and a song by Fiorella Mannoia.
