Giant living nativity built live on-line
Carpenters, electricians, blacksmiths. Dozens of volunteers have already been working since September, to build the set of the large living nativity on its 39th edition
Christmas is still far from us, but dozens of volunteers are already at work to build the historical living nativity in Venegono Inferiore, with also a Web-TV live from the large construction site. The initiative, that during Christmas time plans several repeats daily throughout the holiday period, with thousands of visitors, is in it’s preparation stage; carpenters, blacksmiths, electricians are building from scratch a proper giant stage.
“Officially” the volunteers explain, “we began on 18th September. We’re proud of reaching the 39th edition of this performance of the nativity.” Videocameras are shooting everything and showing it live on-line on the website http://www.presepiovenegono.it
This year’s title will be “The night when history bowed to Glory” and the play is written totally in rhyme. For those who want to meet the organisers, on 28th November 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., there will be the Christmas Local Street Market in Lamperti square, Venegono Inferiore, and the people responsible for the nativity project will be there with their stand.
“This year we have great news, as a group of youngsters joined the presepiatt (the people involved in this project, from the Italian presepe, nativity scene) to give us a hand both in building and in organising the event,” they say. “The Gruppo Presepe, in collaboration with Associazione Coincidenze (the youngsters mentioned above) are organising guided tours to the nativity scene.” The protagonists of the tours will be the 70 children of the town’s Spazio Infanzia. “The purpose of this initiative is to involve primary school children in the preparation of one of the most beautiful and important events in the Province during Christmas time,” they say. “The tours consist of four meetings (12th and 19th November, 15th and 17th December) during which they’ll get to explore, ask questions and see the painters, the carpenters, the tailors, the architects and other collaborators at work, while working together for the success of the nativity scene (both the living and the miniature one). That’s a way to get the children closer both to Christmas and to the world of craftsmanship, that is becoming increasingly distant and unknown.”
Like every year, Varesenews is going to pay great attention to Christmas. If you are making a particular nativity scene or if you have any idea that you want to point out, write to redazione@varesenews.it with the subject: Christmas.
