Varese mobilises against nuclear power. Indeed, the local committee for the referendum “Vote yes to stop the nuclear” has been created and promoted up to now by Acli, Arci, Comitato Energia Felice, Greenpeace, Italia Nostra, Legambiente, Lipu, Verdi Ambiente e Società, Uisp.
In order to prepare the mobilisation for the next weeks, for the 12th /13th June referendum, the committee will convene, on Friday 1st April at 9 p.m. at the Acli provincial base, in via Speri della Chiesa, for the first organised meeting, which is open to all the interested people.
“Unfortunately, what is happening in Japan” promoters say“is the dramatic confirmation, which nobody would have wanted to watch, of the fact that incident-free nuclear power doesn’t exist. Station safety is a story in which Italian people will not believe. We have always claimed that Italy does not have to enter in a dangerous, unpopular and anti-economical adventure.”
According to the committee, for our country’s future a modern, pacific, safe and democratic energy model is available: energy efficiency and development of sustainable energies.
The aim of the Yes supporters of June referendum is to bring at least 25 million Italian citizens to vote in order to support atomic energy.
“We will do it. The success of the referendum committee’s national demonstration last Saturday, in Rome, in which many Varese citizens took part, is a positive signal. Now it is up to us and to all the people who would like to join this necessary battle, to bring into the territory the enthusiasm and the participation that we saw in Rome”.
