The Mayor can be found on Facebook
Thirty seven mayors now use this popular social network. Today, we are launching a chart, which will be updated every week.
One in four use Facebook. This is less than the national average, which sees about 30% of politicians involved. In the Province, Facebook is not used by Attilio Fontana or even Gigi Farioli. The election is around the corner, and even though they are standing again, they still do not appear on this popular social network.
On the other hand, even those who use it are immediately on their guard. “We have to be careful, because we are losing contact with the real world,” says Stefano Candiani. “Give me, in Facebook, the same life you can find in a small leaf opening up, or in a child playing. The truth is that, in order to pursue the virtual, we are losing contact with our essential being.”
Candiani is one of the mayors who keeps the number of his “friends” hidden, and so you will find him at the bottom of the special chart of mayors and Facebook.
We admit, it is a game. After maintaining the chart of politicians around the country, on a number of occasions, we had the idea of producing a chart for our mayors.
We know that some will turn up their noses, because they consider Facebook a personal space, but we are convinced that those in charge of councils are public men, and as such, everything they do is of interest, including social networks.
Here is the chart, which we will update every Monday.
This week, Luciano Porro, from Saronno, heads it, with 1471 “friends”. He is followed by Matteo Bianchi, from Morazzone and Roberto Chini, from Cugliate Fabiasco.
The first placed Luciano Porro uses Facebook constantly, although he “hasn’t written much recently. It’s an important, but delicate, instrument: it must be used with care. It can cut both ways if it’s used badly, What you write on it becomes part of the public domain, and this aspect is often unknown, especially to young people. Those who write on Facebook must be prepared to accept the responsibility.”
Piergiulio Gelosa, the mayor of Lonate Pozzolo, admits openly that he does not use Facebook a great deal. He has “only” 118 friends, he explains. “I became interested after last year’s elections, and I only agree to the friendships of people I know, or who know some of my friends. I’m aware this is where the future is going, but it must be used sensibly in order to avoid the dangers. For the time being, I’m still in the past, but I’ll bring myself up to date.”
