Aermacchi agreement: “A step forward in the process of relaunching the sector”

The top managers of Finmeccanica express satisfaction over the agreement with the trade unions.

Giuseppe Giordo, the chief executive of the companies Alenia Aeronautica and Alenia Aermacchi, and head of the aeronautical sector in the industrial group Finmeccanica, spoke positively about the agreement reached with the trade unions. “We’re very pleased to have signed this important agreement, with the united consent of the trade unions, to implement the plan to relaunch Alenia, for which the role of the President Amedeo Caporaletti was decisive.”

Giordo went on. “The agreement confirms the value of the industrial plan that the company brought to the negotiation table, and the importance of the investments with respect to the necessary sacrifice. Furthermore, the agreement is the result of a constructive discussion with the trade unions, who we would like to thank for the commitment and the sense of responsibility shown during the all of the negotiations. Likewise, we would also like to thank the local institutions which supported us.

Today, we have taken a decisive step to tackling the challenges of the market in the best way possible. Moreover, we hope to have the support of the government, so that Finmeccanica and Italy are able to safeguard the ability to design, produce, test and provide logistic support to a complete, fixed-wing aircraft,” Giordo concluded.

Giuseppe Orsi, the chief executive of Finmeccanica, also commented, defining the agreement “a responsible and decisive step forward in the strategy to relaunch Finmeccanica’s aeronautical sector, which is intended to improve the ability to respond to market demands and to the increasingly complex challenges of international competition. Thanks to a serious discussion between both sides, and to the strong sense of responsibility shown, the conditions were laid for consolidating and adapting the skills of an industrial sector that is strategic for Finmeccanica, in line with the integration of the firms that are a part of it. It is important to stress that these actions of streamlining must be accompanied by selective investments to increase the value and the production prospects of the company throughout the country, with particular focus on Campania and Puglia. This agreement represents an initial element on which to base Finmeccanica’s process of reorganisation.
