Snow and commuters. Cattaneo: “The Trenord system held out”
This is what the Regional Councillor for Infrastructure and Transport said after the heavy snowfalls in the last few days. Only 3.5% of trains in Lombardy have been cancelled.
“The snow has caused difficulties for the trains, but, on the whole, the Trenord service in Lombardy has held out, particularly if we compare it to neighbouring regions.”
This is what the Councillor for Infrastructure and Transport for Lombardy Region, Raffaele Cattaneo, said as he revealed the performance results for trains in Lombardy yesterday and today. “Understandably, the trains have built up longer delays than normal, but they have reached their destinations.”
A total of 72 trains were cancelled yesterday, that is, only 3.5% of those travelling around Lombardy. Today, about 96% of trains, out of a total of 1482 running, reached their destinations by 6 p.m. The percentage of trains that arrived with a delay of less than 5 minutes was 64.8% yesterday, and 64.7% today. Thus, 2 out of 3 trains arrived with a delay of less than 5 minutes, and no fewer than 80% of the trains arrived with a maximum delay of 15 minutes.
“We’re working to keep inconveniences on all commuters’ home journeys to a minimum,” Mr Cattaneo said. “And so, I must thank all of the Trenord staff.”
From the information provided by the other regions, the most critical situation was in Piedmont, where 200 out of 940 train journeys were cancelled yesterday, and today, according to Councillor Bonino, “One hundred and ninety six trains have run, and 151 have been cancelled.”
The situation was also critical in Emilia Romagna, where, according to the information provided by Trenitalia, 110 of the 510 trains running yesterday (21.5%) were blocked, and difficulties at Bologna Station today have caused delays of between 30 and 90 minutes and the cancellation of about half of the regional trains. Lastly, in Liguria, about 20% of the trains were cancelled, and the others ran with delays of between 15 and 60 minutes.
