Saronno-Seregno, the first operating train by end of year
Inspection by the Regional councillor Cattaneo and the President of the Northern Railway of the “ piedmont railway " that will link Malpensa, the southern area of the province of Varese and Brianza.
The first train to the Saronno–Seregno will make its run at the end of the year, with the activation of the winter timetable. Raffaele Cattaneo, regional councillor of the railways, announced this. Thursday morning he had made a visit to the site along with Norberto Achille, president of the North Milan Railways group.
During the visit, open to journalists, a trip to the site was also made, where they noticed that there are just a few km of track left to finish the work defined as the "piedmont railway” that will link Malpensa, the southern area of the province of Varese and Brianza.
"The building sites in Lombardy move forward quickly” explained the councillor Cattaneo “this train route is another example of the commitment that the Region is lavishing to accomplish the sites and finish them on time, without any cost increase. In a moment where it seems that the only thing that is important is what does not work, this site is the example of something that works. And it is the proof that we are not only concerned of the highway construction sites, as some people say: a few kilometers from here, there is the Piedmont highway, which proceeds on time and this, as I have said in other occasions, is the Piedmont railway. Both of them will be made, indeed, the Piedmont railway will be ready before that the one on asphalt.”
The new line, which will be 15 km long, 7.8 of which are double track, for which 75 million Euros were spent, will interconnect the networks of Ferrovienord in Saronno, leading to Malpensa, Varese, Novara and Como , with the line of Ferrovienord that goes to Brianza, to Asso, and the main one of the Italian railway Network, which goes towards Chiasso and Milan, the one that will reduce the traffic from the Gotthard tunnel.
"From this main line Malpensa-Saronno–Seregno, which will continue towards east to Bergamo,” concluded Cattaneo, “passengers as well as goods, will pass, creating new mobility opportunities for the whole Lombardy and re-establishing the trade of the so-called “Gronda nord”. With this line, moreover, it will be activated the extension in Saronno of S9, which, from Milan, now only arrives to Seregno. "
