The winners of DocumentaMy 2012
The first year of this documentary festival has been won by a young director from Pordenone, Caterina Shanta, with È troppo vicino per mettere a fuoco. The prize decided by the public is shared by Emanuela Mascherini and Mattia Coletto.
The first year of DocumentaMy, Varese’s new documentary festival, has come to an end. For five days, there were screenings, discussions and meetings with documentary filmmakers, in the cinema hall of Filmstudio90, in Via De Cristoforis, in Varese, which were greatly appreciated by the public. The last 2 days focused on the documentary filmmakers Massimo d’Anolfi and Martina Parenti, who gave a packed workshop for those involved in the sector, and who, on Sunday, presented their latest documentary Il castello (The Castle), the multi-award-winning film about a year spent in the airport of Malpensa.
With the VareseNews journalist, Michele Mancino, and the film critic, Mariolina Gamba, the two documentary filmmakers awarded the prizes in the first year of the competition for young filmmakers (up to 35 years of age) and documentaries lasting no more than 30 minutes.
DocumentaMy 2012 was won by the young director, Caterina Shanta, from Pordenone, with her documentary E’ troppo vicino per mettere a fuoco (It’s too close to focus).
Drawing courageously on a private archive, the documentary recounts, in a personal and intimate way, two important events in recent history, and strives to take an impossible, albeit right, distance, leaving the finale inevitably open and unresolved.
The documentary recounts the life of Caterina, through the lenses of two fathers, who are both soldiers in the army. It is a micro-story that weaves together a number of events that made history, from the fall of the Berlin Wall, to the second Gulf War. All of the photographic material used comes entirely from the archive of Caterina’s family, including the images of the conflict.
The prize awarded by the public (more than 100 people cast votes for the works) was shared by two documentaries: “Dynamite” by Emanuela Mascherini and “Nanach revolution” by Mattia Coletto.
