Arcisate-Stabio, the “Swiss” works are on time
The Federal Council confirms that the railway’s works in Ticino will be finished by the end of 2013, a year before the predicted forecast for the Italian stretch. The new trains are in preparation too.
The trains are already in preparation and the works go on quickly: the Swiss Confederation confirms the commitment for the new international railway Lugano-Malpensa, the one in Italy we use to call Arcisate-Stabio, referring to the stretch that has to be built. The update comes from the Swiss Federal Council in an interview made by Lorenzo Quadri, member of the “Lega dei Ticinesi”. The Council reminds us that the works started on the 1st December 2008 on the Swiss side (in the picture, the ceremony of 5 years ago) and that the end of the works in the Swiss side is expected in 2013. The total investment for the work , reminds the Federal Council, amounts to CHF444 million, of which 134 were paid by Switzerland, financed equally by the Canton and the Confederation. In the same communication they applied also to the purchase of some convoys (four trains of four coaches) which will be committed to Tilo in order to carry out the service, according to the manners already defined with an Italian-Swiss agreement.
Also the people in Como are waiting with impatience the start up of the line, which would allow a direct connection toward Varese and Malpensa. “I hope that the Lombardy will confirm its commitment of competence on the Italian side”, says Luca Gaffuri, regional councillor of Como, of the Democratic Party. “We don’t have to forget that the only difficulties emerged until now on this directive, which is essential also for the mobility of the Italian people working in Swiss, concerned the works on the Italian side between Arcisate and Gaggiolo.” The current and last start up forecast of the Italian line of the rail system is fixed for the end of 2014, exactly in the year of the Expo: the international big event is followed with interest also by the Canton Ticino, so that, soon, the mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia is awaited in Lugano.
