Philippe Daverio also signs to save the MAGA

Philippe Daverio has signed to save the work of the MAGA, Gallarate’s museum of art. The art critic, who on Saturday afternoon drew hundreds of people to Filosofarti, joined the plea made a few days ago, after the “Valentine’s Day bonfire”. The plea began on the Internet, and it is now collecting thousands and thousands of signatures (www.premiogallarate.it).

“As a museum, we had two choices,” explained Emma Zanella the director of the MAGA. “We could either sit and wait for help, or we could embrace the idea of a museum that is still alive, even though its main premises are unfit for use. With all of the people who are supporting us, we chose the latter. Let’s make our voices and our ideas heard.”

But is this the right path? Zanella asked Daverio. “Everything depends on the awareness that is quickly formed,” he said. “Culture isn’t a priority in Italy, and we know this. Ours is a country that that doesn’t do a lot; you began, and then you were struck by lightening. And since you can’t turn to Jupiter, it’s important to explain the situation to the people that make up society. Should saving the MAGA be a priority? I think it should. And we need to remind politicians of this, every day, even twice a day. Making people aware is extremely important. This battle needs to be fought with conviction.”
