The River Olona: how can we save it from pollution?

The Olona river must not die. While the situation of the waters, which are still being polluted by surface-active agents and by sludges, is not getting any better, Legambiente, the association “Parco del Medio Olona” and the town council of Gorla Maggiore are trying to bring the main people involved (administrators and ARPA) together to discuss the current situation of the river and possible treatments. The people no longer want to wait, and they have demonstrated this with their growing attention to what is happening to the river. Every day, an inhabitant of Fagnano Olona, Ivano Ghezzi, videos and photographs the foam, and posts what he sees on Facebook. As a result, there is anticipation for the public meeting organised, by the people mentioned above, for Thursday 21 March, at 9 p.m., in the hall of the party area, in Via Sabotino, Gorla Maggiore.

The meeting will be attended by the Mayor of Fagnano Olona, Marco Roncari, his colleague from Marnate, Celestino Cerana, the President of Legambiente Lombardia, Damiano De Simine, the Director of ARPA Varese, Maria Teresa Cazzaniga, the director of Prealpi Servizi, Antonio Caniello, the councillor for the environment from Varese Province, Luca Marsico, Stefano Clerici of the River Contract, Davide Corbella from the Director of Public Prosecution’s Office in Busto Arsizio, and the engineer Cristiano Moroni.
