Varese Legend goes online
The online museum of Varese Basketball opens today. It is starting with the team that won their fifth European Cup in 1976. On Sunday, in Masnago, Varese, the coach at that time, Sandro Gamba, will receive an award.
An innovative team, like Varese Basketball over the years (the consortium is something entirely new, and here, it has achieved results that others can only dream of), has had to work, to ensure that its glorious past would continue into the future. This is where the idea for the project Varese Legend came from; today (Thursday, 28 February), it has become a reality, thanks to the official launch on the Internet (CLICK HERE). The star club, five-time European Champion, has just opened its online museum, a space that will not be limited to images and concepts, but that will provide the public with a historical archive, where they can find unobtainable photographs, videos of matches, excerpts of television news programmes, testimonies of a bygone era.
In addition to the space that everyone can see, the website will have a “private section”, for the fans who subscribe for access to special features (which will cover the initial cost of the museum). The work to create Varese Legend has taken months, and has involved Gianmaria Vacirca, Davide Minazzi, Davide Riva and Paolo Salmini, assisted by many other people who “support” the initiative. An important contribution in the project was made by Carlo Meazza, one of the most renowned photographers in Varese, and the custodian of a large archive dedicated to the exploits of the team that makes the heart of the province beat.
The launch of the online museum is dedicated to one of these exploits: the first team that is being focused on is the MobilGirgi, which won the European Cup, in Geneva, for the last time in 1975/76. That team dominated their archrivals, Real Madrid, 81-74. The coach was Sandro Gamba, who will awarded at the PalaWirlpool Stadium, next Sunday, during the match against Caserta (at midday). The event will mark the start of Varese Legend before the fans of Cimberio, which in turn was an integral part of a long and successful history.
