“We want guaranteed resources for the redundancy fund”
The trade unions’ protest in front of Palazzo Lombardia occurred at the same time as the one in front of the Parliament building. The regional secretaries then met President Maroni.
The trade unions are calling for guaranteed resources for the exceptional redundancy fund, but also for new labour policies.
The CGIL, CISL and UIL took to the streets this morning (Tuesday 16 April) in Milan, at the same time as their colleagues, in Rome, who were demonstrating in front of the Parliament building. The trade unions demonstrated before Palazzo Lombardia, the headquarters of the regional council, demanding that, by the end of April, the government allocate additional resources to the regions, to pay for all requests for exceptional redundancy and mobility payments; that Lombardy Region be allocated more appropriate national resources, and ensure a rapid authorisation procedure, which satisfies the needs of workers and companies, also by making the payments in advance, using their own funds; that all bureaucratic obstacles put in the way by the Ministry and by the social security organisation, INPS, who delay payments and the recognition of the right to receive social security, be removed; that the relocation procedures for anyone that is losing or has lost their job should be strengthened and be made more effective, starting with the more disadvantaged workers in the marketplace; and finally, that Lombardy Region set up a substantial recovery plan to relaunch development, investments and the creation of new jobs.
The representatives of the three trade unions then met the President of Lombardy Region, Roberto Maroni, and regional councillor for labour Valentina Aprea. “Tomorrow, with President Maroni, I’m meeting Finlombarda, to organise advance payments from the exceptional redundancy fund, for workers in Lombardy. The trade unions asked for a commitment on our part to advance exceptional redundancy payments, and we agreed. Of course, there has to be a first step by the national Government for the allocation of certain amounts," Aprea said.
