Car sharing comes to the station

Thanks to E-vai, and to an agreement with Trenord, it will be possible to rent electric cars also at the small railway station. Sixteen thousand people have subscribed to the service, with 1700 rentals a month.

The sustainable mobility project being promoted in Lombardy by E-vai, the only ecological car sharing service (car fleet 70% electric), which is region-wide, and which has been integrated with the Trenord railway service, is still growing. The success of E-vai is growing throughout Lombardy: over 16,000 people have subscribed, and there are about 1700 rentals per month. To the more than forty rental points in over twenty Lombard towns, eight in Varese Province alone, including Milan’s Linate and Malpensa airports, three new points have been added in Ternate: in Via Stazione, where the inauguration took place this morning, in the presence of Mayor Enzo Grieco and Giovanni Alberio from E-vai, in Via Roma, near the large car park of Berrini Park, and in Piazza Libertà. At the E-vai point in Via Stazione, in particular, a “pump” to recharge the batteries of the electric cars has also been installed.

“Throughout Lombardy, and particularly in Varese Province, E-vai ecological car sharing is becoming increasingly popular,” explained Giovanni Alberio, from E-vai. “With the new rental points in Ternate, we want to strengthen the service’s network in the area even more, and to contribute to making our region increasingly green, by spreading the culture of practical mobility that is convenient and, above all, sustainable.”

“The figures concerning the car sharing market show that demand for this service will grow a lot in the near future,” Enzo Grieco, the Mayor of Ternate, continued. “As we want our village to continue to be attentive to the people’s needs, to be modern, with services aimed also at tourists, after the beautiful cycle path, with this important contribution, this morning, we are enhancing the mobility in the area in a way that respects environmental sustainability. From today, it will be possible to arrive by train at the beautiful station of Ternate-Varano Borghi, which has just been restored, and which is only a short distance from the centre of the two villages that share its rails, and to continue, for those who want to, to discover the wonderful landscape, between the lakes and hills of this province, in an ecological car. We hope this will be a small help also for the important industrial companies, and for the beautiful hotels of Ternate and Varano Borghi, in view of EXPO 2015. Three rental points with four cars available are a good start, to give the young and less young the opportunity to try out this new, economical, and above all eco-friendly way of getting around. The council of Ternate will be using this service immediately, and wishes to thank E-vai and Trenord for their cooperation. We also want to thank the State Railways, Dr Lebruto and his collaborators, for their availability and the good outcome of the agreement for use of the railway station, the headquarters and logistics base also of Ternate’s Civil Defence.”

At the end of the ceremony, the people were able to test drive the latest generation, low environmental-impact electric cars that E-vai made available. Furthermore, everyone that subscribed benefited from a special promotion: four free hours for the first rental.

The service – The new E-vai points in Ternate have two electric cars with lithium-ion traction batteries (two Citroen C-Zeros, which carry four passengers, which have air-conditioning, a range of 130 km and a maximum speed of 110km/h), and two Euro 5 cars, which have a low environmental impact (a Fiat Punto Bifuel and a Fiat Panda Twinair, which carry five and four people, respectively, and which each have air-conditioning).

Times and prices – E-vai ecological car sharing is available every day, 24 hours a day. The price is €5/h, without any additional costs linked to mileage, for the electric cars, and €2.40/h plus €0.48/km, for the low environmental-impact cars.

Instructions for use – Everybody can subscribe to E-vai, whether or not they have season tickets for the Lombard railways. To register, just go to www.e-vai.com and follow the directions. All new subscribers will have a free two-hour-rental (four hours, for those who registered today at the new E-vai point in Ternate).

How to subscribe – Depending on how much you need to use the service, there are two ways in which to subscribe:

Silver: this is the ideal solution for those who occasionally need to use the service, without subscription costs, and with a first free two-hour rental. The payment is only by credit card, and €5 should be added for each rental.

Gold: this is the most convenient solution for those who use the service often. It is possible to pay for the rental by credit card, cashpoint card, cash or bank transfer, by paying €50 in advance, which will immediately be converted into credit for use on future rentals.

The cars can be booked by telephone, on the free-phone number 800 77 44 55, or by visiting the website. For all new subscribers, the first rental is free (up to a maximum of two hours).
