The Democratic Fête is ready to start again
This is a special year for the Democratic Fête, in Schiranna. For 30 years, Varese has organised the longest celebration in Italy. Tradition and change go hand in hand, and the fête is like a training ground for this relationship.
“The protagonists at fêtes are the volunteers,” said Samuele Astuti, the Democratic Party provincial secretary. “Fêtes are an important time for us and for the people, for exchanging ideas and for funding for our activities. We have 75 associations in the province and fêtes provide a great opportunity to meet. We always have to be careful to set ourselves important goals for change, also starting from the different positions expressed within the party.”
Luca Rasetti is in charge of the fête in Schiranna, where a large number of associations come together. “In 2014, we opened for twenty weekends and we served more than 20,000 people. This year, we’ll be open for 17 weekends, with four fêtes. We want to open up to the community, and particularly to young people. We’re going to have two competitions, one for bands and one for writers. The key themes of the fête will be linked more to the 70th anniversary of the Liberation and to Expo.”
“Today is a really good day,” said Domenico Del Bene, “because we’re bringing together all of the volunteers of all of the fêtes, starting with those of the Borgorino. Our fête starts on 30 May, with a long weekend, lasting until 2 June.”
There will also be a large presence of Young Democrats. Andrea Calò spoke on their behalf. “Our relationship with the fêtes is very strong, also because this is one of the best times to involve young people in both voluntary work and political initiatives.”
“The fêtes provide an opportunity to tell people about the activities of the authorities, starting with the parliamentary work,” said the Honourable Maria Chiara Gadda. “We’ve brought ministers and national representatives, who demonstrate their interest in speaking to the people. We’re even capable of genuine renewal. You need only look at the area where young are managing a second-hand book stand. This is a good message about culture and attention to the environment.”
