Varese-Porto Ceresio railway: construction sites opening in September

The building sites for the reactivation of the Varese – Porto Ceresio railway line will open immediately after the summer.

The positive news comes today directly from RFI – Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, who we had asked, via the press office for news about what for seven years had become the “ghost railway”.

“The operation is confirmed and is currently at the design stage,” is the answer of the head of the printing RFI – Ferrovie dello Stato Group. “The project managers expect the opening of the site in the month of September 2016 and the conclusion of the works before 31th December 2017″.

Fifteen months of work, therefore, are considered sufficient to restore movement on the route, that was closed to rail traffic 13th December 2009 after a modernisation effort that had ended only a few months before.

Good news also regarding the involvement of the mayors of the two towns directly affected by the route, Bisuschio and Porto Ceresio.

“With the Lombardy Region, we have spoken about the participation of these municipalities to the already active tables with administrators involved in the construction site of Arcisate-Stabio,” adds the RFI spokesperson. “There are no obstacles, and later together with the Lombardy Region there will also be meetings arranged with these mayors “.

Two positive developments that fit into the debate on the reactivation of the Varese – Porto Ceresio railway line that has been rekindled in recent months, first due to the reopening of the construction site of Arcisate – Stabio, then with the event organised by Legambiente on 13th March and today the centre of the pre-election debate in Porto Ceresio.
