Hospital inside a prison: inaugurated new healthcare section

It was the health assessor of the Lombardy region, Mario Mantovani, to cut the ribbon of the new section of the prison in Busto Arsizio. The new areas will be completely destined to sanitation with the start of a small hospital inside the prison. Seven cells have been built  to receive up to 14 people and 2 general medicine clinics equipped with the proper gear for orthodontics, x-ray and ultrasound. The sanitarian section contains a gym for motor rehab and ad hoc clinics to face infective diseases and others for psychiatric and psychological assistance.

Decrease in the number of convicts in the prison of Busto Arsizio.

The facility, realised thanks to the partnership with the hospital of Busto Arsizio, will not only receive those convicts that may fall ill in Busto Arsizio, but even those coming from other Lombard prisons for a maximum period of three weeks. An intervention realised in record time,the one inaugurated 20th October. “It was the 7th of July ”, said Mantovani, “when the director of the Hospital, and the director of the prison came to me to present the projects, and in very short time we manage to realise this rehab service”. A work done in three months and realised thanks to those who work in the prison. The air and electric systems and the heating plant have been built by a maintenance team of the prison police, the convicts have painted the rooms while the hospital handled the equipment and the rehab gym.

The realisation of this facility, not also reduced the operating costs of the convicts, it will also help to reach the European standards after the sentence of the European Court in Strasbourg. For the occasion were present the regional commissioner  of the prisons, Aldo Fabozzi, the healthcare director Armando Gozzini, the senator Laura Bignami and the assessor Mario Cislaghi. The inauguration of the new cells built inside the facility though, will take place at the end of November. In the end the prison in Busto Arsizio will be definitely worthy of a civilised country.
