The wardrobe that held Mussolini’s body is to be sold on eBay

The shop Lovendoperte.it in Busto Arsizio obtained it from a family in Legnano, and is auctioning it, with a starting bid of € 5000. For 11 years, the cupboard held the dictator’s body, inside the Capuchin monastery, in Cerro Maggiore.

History, in the form of a wardrobe (see photo), can be found in a shop in Busto Arsizio which sells second-hand objects on eBay. The wardrobe in itself is not worth a euro, but for 11 years it contained the body of Mussolini, which, from 1946 to 1957 (this is a historical fact) was hidden inside the Monastery of the Capuchin Friars, in Cerro Maggiore. The story began when Domenico Leccisi, a die-hard Fascist, even after the end of the war, learnt that Benito Mussolini was buried in the Musocco Cemetery, in Milan. On the night between 22 and 23 April, 1946, Leccisi caused a great scandal when he snatched the body of the dictator. Once snatched, the body was kept in a secret place and, later, delivered to two minor friars of the Angelicum, in Milan. The body was then moved to the Capuchin Monastery, in Cerro Maggiore, near Legnano, where it stayed until 1957, when the Zoli government returned it to the Mussolini family, allowing it to be transferred Predappio.

A few days ago, the shop LoVendoPerTe.it, in Busto Arsizio, was commissioned to sell the wardrobe that had contained the body. Now the wardrobe, which belongs to a family in Legnano, is going to be auctioned, starting on 15 May. The auction is taking place on the world’s most important auction and selling website, eBay, and the shop will be acting as Assistant for online transactions. The auction is starting with a bid of €5000. So, to anyone interested in a unique item from Italian history, we recommend you follow the auction on eBay.it from 22 May; for all information and explanations, contact Daniele Luoni, who is in charge of the shop in Busto Arsizio, in Via XX Settembre. As you can see from the photo, the wardrobe has certificates and documents authenticating the claims mentioned above.

Here below, is part of the document for the delivery of the body by the friars to the Mussolinis, from the blog mussoliniverbale.blogspot.it

Padre Ralo from Milan, states that, in August 1946, the late Cardinal Schuster asked that his order receive, from the then Chief of Police Dr Agnesina, here present, the remains of Benito Mussolini, and that they keep them in one of their monasteries in a holy place: that, following the explicit consent of the Provincial Father of the time, he was sent to Padre Mauro (of? ed.) Cornate d’Adda to satisfy the request of His Eminence, the Cardinal: thus, the case containing the remains, as indicated in the documents owned by the order, was received and held on 25 August 1946, in the chapel of the Monastery in Cerro Maggiore, and remained there here until 5 p.m. yesterday, as, at this time (following the order received from the Chief of Police) the above-mentioned remains were taken away by Dr Agnesina and transferred, escorted by the Provincial Father of Milan himself to the Monastery in Musocco , where this morning at 6 a.m. they were again taken and transferred, escorted by Father Carlo from Milan, to this Cemetery of S. Cassiano, in Predappio, for delivery to the family and final burial.
