All together to protect the shops
A provincial agreement protocol has been signed for the video surveillance of shops, that is linked to the forces of law and order; it will be put into practice using a new digital system.
It is a new, more open form of technology, which will provide antitheft surveillance in Varese shops. The provincial agreement protocol presented this morning, 12 February 2013, gives the go ahead for a national agreement, between the Ministry of the Interior and national trade associations, on antitheft systems.
A single, interactive map will check all of the points in which the system has been activated, and the video cameras may be activated with a simple click. This is the system (for the first time, it is digital and not analogue) that was presented in the Prefect’s Office, together with those who have signed the provincial agreement: the Prefect himself, Giorgio Zanzi, the General Secretary of Confcommercio Varese, Sergio Bellani, and the director of Confesercenti, Gianni Lucchina. The system was illustrated by Secur Shop, the company from Treviglio that produced it.
The creation of this system began with the national agreement protocol in 2009, and before becoming operational, it was standardised with the systems most commonly used in the province. “A lot of work was done to connect the various technologies to the operation centres of the Police and Carabinieri,” Giorgio Zanzi explained. “The last step, before putting it into operation, was to have only a single signal sent.”
“It might all sound easy, but it wasn’t; the process of standardising was very delicate; the main aim was preventive,” Sergio Bellani, added.
“This agreement has highlighted our ability not to look just at our situation, but to make the system available to everyone,” Gianni Lucchina concluded.
The new technology will also allow making video cameras outside the shops, independently available to the forces of law and order, connecting them up in such a way that they can watch a street corner, if necessary. And the possibility of linking the video cameras of Varese town council up to the same system and to the same map is currently under consideration.
